On behalf of our South African Organising Team, we cordially invite you to join us for the 3rd International Symposium of TEAM (Working Group on Tephritids of Europe, Africa and the Middle East) to be held from 11 – 14 April 2016, in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
TEAM was founded on the basis of the strong interconnections (ecological, cultural and economic) that exists between the three regions, and the need to exchange information and knowledge on fruit flies that are common to these regions.
This 3rd TEAM symposium will provide opportunities for interaction between academia, researchers, extension and industry specialists, who will present their latest scientific results and deliberate on a number of pertinent issues on fruit fly biology, ecology and control. No particular theme is selected for this symposium, but all relevant topics and major items will be addressed in specific sessions, in order to have a broad forum for all to present their recent findings. Not only will this event broaden the knowledge base of all concerned, but it will also enhance the synergies between the different institutions of the three regions and business sectors.
We look forward to hosting delegates who will be visiting South Africa for the first time, as well as those for whom it will be a return visit. We do hope that it will be a fruitful and memorable meeting for all of you who will join us here in Stellenbosch.
We have secured support from the editor of Journal of Applied Entomology for the publication of the proceedings of the meeting as a special issue. Guest edited by Brian Barnes and Chris Weldon, it is planned that manuscripts be peer-reviewed in the second half of 2016 and that the special issue will be in print in the first half of 2017. Previous special issues of Journal of Applied Entomology featuring the proceedings of TEAM and other tephritid meetings are highly cited, and I strongly encourage participants of TEAM 2016 to consider submitting their research for publication in the proceedings.
